Aliens, destruction, and ships--oh my.

I forgot how much I fuckin' love Independence Day.

I've yet to see an "invasion" movie that was so much fun to watch and still had it's terrifying and sad moments mixed in with comedy. It had it's cheesy moments, no doubt, but goddamn. Every time I see the ship come in and destroy the Empire State Building...goddamn. Really awesome effects too, considering it came out in '96.

Otakon

So, Otakon was pretty fucking good. I had some qualms about it (shitty panels and anime being shown) and otherwise getting cornholed out of the 4chan panel but I got to see some good anime which overall made the experience more enjoyable when it came to that.(Speed Grapher, Basilisk, Hundred Stories) I didn't feel good the whole time being there with a massive headache, ear infection, and of course, my period. And then I contracted a cold that left me with a rasping voice and even WORSE ear infection and nasal drip.

Oh yeah, I was rockin' it hardcore.

HOWEVER. The best part was meeting some of my favorite artists sw_inku, shiroro who published a doujin focusing on Izuru from Bleach with Gin and then later Ikkaku. Being a GinxKira fangirl I was beyond HAPPY. Everything was written by peroxidepest17 (one of my favorite fic writers) and the first story was illustrated by tsurugi so that left a good feeling in me. I believe I bought around $150 worth of artwork from the Artist's Alley, three manga (Bleach 20, Naruto 14, and X 16), annnd Speed Grapher on DVD. Last year I spent most of my money on shit in the dealer's room ($200) and got MUCH less. So, chalk one up for Artist's Alley being fucking AWESOME.

I fucking adore the artwork of these people. :) If I come back next year, I hope to find more Shadow of the Colossus artwork (thanks Elmer for the commission from ICO! You made me so damn happy!)and just otherwise awesome game artwork. Nothing makes me so happy as having something pretty to look at and feel emotion behind. Colors, movements, subject material. You're all awesome. -All- of you.

Oh, and happy belated birthday to me.

Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus rocks my fucking socks off. It's got a very simple plotline and gameplay set up, but the GAME is ASTOUNDING. It honestly pushes the limits of the PS2 to extremes I've never thought possible. The soundtrack.. everything is just.. gah!

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/21491909/

I wonder if said person would mind if I used that for a t-shirt of mine. :| Secondly, I wonder if I could do it right.

Been playing Final Fantasy VII most of the day and realized how much damn FUN it is. I forgot to pick up Yuffie and I got Vincent! Now Vincent can be my favorite character, but so damn unpredictable.

Whee, fun times. I need to remember my materia combos that I used way, way back when. I honestly don't even remember getting as far as I have now, but I know the whole story and how to do stuff. Blargh. My memory is going to seed and I'm only 19. Although I don't remember crying when Red XIII finally sees his father, I did this time. :| Mm, go go me.

Rewatching Advent Children, I can't help but squee at Cloud who is secretly Kira in disguise the whole damn movie. Sakurai Takahiro, you are god. Speaking of Kira, I have fucked up dreams. Good ones, but fucked up. I dreamt last night that all the characters of Bleach were in the running for some couples thing. All right, it's already weird. Then--it went CUTE. Gin and Kira were late, so they ran in and didn't have any seats left in the place. So, Gin sat on the floor and Kira lounged happily in his lap. Then, I woke up. :P

Anansi Boys, ice cream, and such.

I'm about to head out to the store and buy some ice cream, but I decided to post here before I did. :P

I thought I'd write a bit about Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. It's a follow-up to his American Gods novel which I absolutely loved. It essentially tells the story of Mr. Nancy's children and what happened to him after American Gods. I really did love it, but it just didn't match up with the story of his previous novel. I'm sure Gaiman wasn't aiming for a book better than the last, but just wanted to talk about one of the more important side characters in the novel.

I wish he'd write one about Horus or Mr. Jackal. :(

Does anyone have any suggestions for good books? I've finished up the Earthsea Cycle and already have most of A Song of Ice and Fire done.

The character I'd want to be like
08. The character I'd slap
09. A pairing that I love
10.
College and classes.

Taking a night off of raiding in Warcraft = good for the sooooul.

I'm looking into applying to several colleges in NY and am just.. so.. blarrrgh. I definetly want to continue, but many of my friends I've made at HCCC (Herkimer County Community College) have left and/or are staying another semester there to finish up their work without killing themselves in one semester. Me? No way! Masochism is where it's at in my school life. I've got an eighteen credit load with a Statistics I, Abornmal Psych., Archaeology, Fundamentals of Biology II, American History I (I had to get another social science. Auuuugh.), and Physical Fitness II. This winter break (starting the third), I begin my "winter mini" Intro to Psych. class.

Sigh. I'm just really worried about applying and being declined by the colleges that I'm most interested in. There's a Japanese exchange student who I befriended a while ago (she's living with my friend's mother who moved away) and she's applying to the same colleges as me. I really, really think it'd be great if I could room with her. God knows she'd do all the cooking and I'd do all the cleaning. :P

Do any of you have any advice when it comes to applying? :(

I'm just so fucking down about shit lately. Maybe it's just the good 'ol hormones kicking in, god knows those are the worst part of me lately. I have this aching feeling lately, that nothing good will come of the situations I'm in lately.

My guild in Warcraft, which is at Nefarian in BWL, is once again going through a stage of immaturity. And I, as an officer, have to deal with it. God, I can't wait to step down and push myself away from the stress of all the -work-. Thank you god, for making me have to babysit people in a fucking video game. Graaaaaah.

I worked today and it was pretty awful. And guess what? I work New Year's eve. Bloody fucking brilliant, eh?

Narnia, classes, etc.

I really need to look into using this thing more often. I tend to just read my friend's page all day and have nothing else to bother writing about. This year has been fairly good to me, except on the school side of things. I've got so much work to do still, and I'm just "blah" about every class but philosophy.

Philosophy has really made me happy, in fact. I'd say it's one of the best classes I've ever taken and Dr. Pring is just such a character to watch when he's lecturing. Lazy eye, always smiling, and just funny as hell with the stories he tells. Sadly enough, he's fully retired this year and won't be coming back to teach. I had planned when I first started at HCCC to take World Religions with him, but it looks like I can't. Mmm. I kinda wanna keep in contact with him. He's really been a great influence on me so far.

In the past two months, I've had a real blast with movies and other things to do in my life. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was great (at least, I loved it) and Narnia absolutely made me fall in love again with the series. I can't wait for that to come out on DVD! Mmm. The children were so brilliant in the movie and the battle scene.. AHHH! So good! It followed the book PERFECTLY, skipping very little material.

Oh? And Mr. Tumnus? <3 I wanted to hug him the whole movie.

Pirates of the Carribean and the Dead Man's Chest is coming out! PINTEL AND RAGETTI ARE IN IT! CELEBRATE, BITCHES! I know I am!

Fwee~

I swear I'll post more in this thing, as of now I'm just reading a lot of entries and communities. In either case, I'm a bit worried about college yet again. Not so much my grades, but the whole transfer process is really putting me off. I've got LeMoyne and St. Bonaventure on my list of places to send an application to. Still, the whole thing is making me sick to my stomach. I'm way too afraid of being declined.

In happier news, I just recently picked up Gankutsuou and Last Exile as some of my watches. It's fairly interesting so far and I really like the art style. When Cluster Edge comes out in October, I'll undoubtedly be watching that too.

Classes start tomorrow and I've essentially wasted the majority of my summer away. Hip hip HOORAY. I honestly hope I'll be able to choices this semester and not turn into a royal fuckup like I did at the end of high school.

In any case, I've picked up anime once again and here is my watching list:
-Gundam SEED Destiny
-Scrapped Princess
-D.N.Angel
-BLEACH

All of which are incredibly good and I'm also rereading X. SeishirouxSubaru, how I missed you.

The Lucksmiths and the Decemberists

I cannot begin to express my love for these groups and the songs they construct. It's beyond moving, it's beyond poetry for me--there's so much emotion and feeling in these songs. I've never been so entranced by music like this, but by fucking god I am amazed. I fully intend to purchase all their albums as quickly as I can.

"Don't know how I survived
The crew all was chewed alive
I must have slipped between his teeth
But, oh, what providence
What divine intelligence
That you should survive
As well as me
It gives my eye great joy
To see your eyes fill with fear
To lean in close
And I will whisper
The last words you'll hear."

Onyxia, Onyxia

Not too much up tonight, just killed Onyxia and got myself Shard of the Scale (trinket that regens 16 mana every 5 seconds!).

I recently started reading The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula LeGuin, book 2 of The Earthsea Cycle. It's incredibly good and I'm enjoying LeGuin's storytelling style. There's a very mysterious feel to her work and it's an enjoyable read. I haven't had one of these in a while.

My return...

And after a long, long hiatus and a thumbing of my nose at my old journal, I'm back! Perhaps I'll look into getting a paid account, but I'm just not so sure. I'm not sure what I'll talk about here, but I'll try to make it as interesting as possible.

EDIT: I was ruek.
